Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
In short: RetroRecomped does not collect, sell or share your personal data. Your games, saves and settings stay on your devices, and in cloud storage you choose.
RetroRecomped ("the app", formerly Gen2Recomp) is a free fan project made by UNDERdecodedHD ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your information.
Information stored on your device
- Data built from the ROM files you import, your save files, settings, installed mods and the Pokéwalker's step history. All of it stays on your device.
- On Android, if you allow it, the app reads your phone's step counter to power the Pokéwalker. The step counts stay on your device.
- If you turn on Pokéwalker notifications, the app keeps a short list of step milestones on your device so it can notify you. Nothing about this leaves your device.
Cloud saves: Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive
Cloud saves are optional. If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, the app uses that access only to sync your RetroRecomped save files and Pokéwalker data between your own devices.
- Google Drive: the app asks for the
drive.filepermission. That only lets it see and change files it created itself; it cannot see the rest of your Drive. - Microsoft OneDrive: the app asks for
Files.ReadWrite.AppFolder, which is limited to the app's own folder in your OneDrive. It also asks foroffline_access, so you stay signed in, andUser.Read, the standard sign-in permission. - The sign-in token is stored only on your device. Files go directly between your device and your own cloud storage. They never pass through any server of ours, and we cannot see them.
- To stop, sign out in Settings → Cloud Saves, or remove the app's access in your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps and services) or your Microsoft account (Privacy → Apps and services). The files stay in your cloud storage until you delete them.
RetroRecomped's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and no person reads it.
Online features and third parties
Some features contact other services when you use them. These requests carry the normal information any internet request does, such as your IP address, and are covered by those services' own privacy policies.
- Updates, news and mods: GitHub (github.com, raw.githubusercontent.com, api.github.com), to check for new versions, show news and list or download mods.
- Game art (optional): when you choose to scrape art, box art comes from the libretro-thumbnails project on GitHub and short game descriptions come from Wikipedia.
- Link play (optional): online battles and trades connect through a relay server we run. It passes game messages between the players in a room and does not keep them; your IP address is visible to the server while you are connected.
- Translation (optional): on-device translation downloads language models once. Your game text is translated on your device and is never uploaded.
- Discord (desktop): if the Discord app is running, the app can show what you are playing on your Discord profile, through Discord's local connection on your computer.
- Donation links: these open PayPal or other donation pages in your browser; the app shares nothing with them.
- This website is a static site with no cookies, analytics or tracking.
Analytics and advertising
The app contains no analytics, tracking, crash reporting or advertising.
Children
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
